A Prayer Guide for Universities

I invite you to begin this school year by praying for students and for universities.

This Prayer Guide for Universities is part of a series of posts. Be sure to catch all of them.

At the Student Centre of the University of the Nations, we are praying for students, for the heavy load they carry even through the pandemic, for their mental health, for those who are losing hope and turning to drugs and suicide. During the month of May, I prayed for a different university campus every day. I visited about 15 campuses where I walked and prayed during that month. All through the month of August, leaders of the Student Centre in Santiago, Chile are praying and sending out prayer cards for the universities. And in September, YWAM International is sending out “The Invitation,” our monthly call to prayer. September’s focus is on students and universities internationally.

We are praying for believing and unbelieving students and professors, locally and internationally. We are praying for formal and informal bible studies on campus, and for YWAM Campus Ministries in over 100 cities on every continent. We are praying for hospitality (friendship with foreigners) for international students. We are praying for students to serve and learn about issues of poverty, disease, illiteracy, impure water, human trafficking, domestic violence, drug abuse, homelessness, broken families, and at risk youth. Most importantly, we are praying for a revival of seeing through God’s eyes. We are praying for the light of the gospel of the kingdom to awaken within us a fresh understanding of the purpose of the university. We are praying for God’s vision for the university – which is to make disciples of and teach all nations (Matt. 28:18). That’s why we pray for universities and that’s why we continue to ask God to send YWAMers to live and serve from ministry houses near university campuses all over the world. But what does it really mean to pray, “Thy kingdom come, they will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matt. 6:10).

On September 9, YWAM International has our monthly call to prayer. Read “The Invitation” to learn about this month’s focus, which is on students and universities internationally.

Going Barefoot

I love to go barefoot in the summertime. I love sand between my toes. But going shoeless is not just for the pleasures of the beach. Why wear shoes? To protect our feet. I find three main characters in the Bible who went barefoot. David, Moses, and Jesus.
