The book of Genesis opens with God’s action and attribute of communication (Gen 1:3); He is the Original Communicator. Your internal thoughts, which are formed into words, did not begin with you. Your thoughts cannot change who God is; He simply is. Before there was anything, there is God. God spoke His thoughts and created everything that is, and He said, “It is good.” Even the chair you sit on and you rely on everytime you put your full weight on it was made through words. All the atoms and energy to make the chair, all the creativity and detail, came into being by an original act of faith, communication. If you are called to communications, this basic truth is your primary source.
God has spoken and we now have myriads of written testimonies of his words to humanity over thousands of years. He is still communicating today. Through His word, God calls everyone into His good plans and purposes, including the vocation of communications.
But not all communication is good; some communication twists the truth. Lauren Daigle’s song, “You Say,” is about the core issue of the human heart, which echoes a lie from our Adversary, saying “You are not enough.” When we believe the lie, we turn away from God’s good plans. But God calls us back into a restored relationship. God called Adam, “Where are you?” God knows you better than you know yourself, so there’s no wisdom hiding. No matter what you’ve done, He still calls you by name so he can restore you through His words of grace and mercy. Communicators with grace are empowered to overcome distortions.
Speaking to shepherds, fishermen, and farmers on a hillside in Galilee, Jesus said, “You are the light of the world” (Matt. 5:14). Brutally beaten and nearing his last breath, Jesus Christ spoke from the cross, “Father forgive them, they do not know what they do”(Luke 23:34). The risen Christ revealed Himself as God, all powerful and personal, and he spoke these words to His followers, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8).
If you are called to Communications, God’s grace empowers you to communicate God’s truth everywhere.
