Notice the things that Jesus says. Luke 23:3 So Pilate asked Jesus, “Are you the king of the Jews?” “You have said so,” Jesus replied. Luke 22:33-34 But he replied, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.” Jesus answered, “I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me.”

In other words, “You Say, Peter, you will go to prison and death, but I say you will deny me.” Jesus also said he would be betrayed by one of his own followers.

But the hand of him who is going to betray me is with mine on the table.

Luke 22:21

(And the gospel writers witnessed Judas dipping his bread with Jesus at that moment.)

We know as we read Luke 22 that what Jesus said actually happened. Not only was Jesus arrested in the early morning hours in the Garden of Gethsemane, and not only was he betrayed by Judas, but Peter also denied Jesus three times, before the cock crowed that early Friday morning.

Look at Luke 22: vs66-70:

“At daybreak the council of the elders of the people, both the chief priests and the teachers of the law, met together,(BN) and Jesus was led before them. “If you are the Messiah,” they said, “tell us.” Jesus answered, “If I tell you, you will not believe me, and if I asked you, you would not answer. But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God.” They all asked, “Are you then the Son of God?” Jesus didn’t talk much when he was being interrogated and beaten by the Sanhedrin on Friday morning. But when they asked “Are you the Son of God?” he replied, “You say that I am.”

Who’s voice to you listen to? Your own? The worlds? Or are you listening to what Jesus says?

I love Lauren Daigle’s hit song: “You Say.” Here are a few verses from that song:

“I keep fighting voices in my mind that say I’m not enough Every single lie that tells me I will never measure up Am I more than just the sum of every high and every low? Remind me once again just who I am, because I need to know, … You say I am loved when I can’t feel a thing You say I am strong when I think I am weak And You say I am held when I am falling short And when I don’t belong, oh, You say I am Yours And I believe, oh, I believe What You say of me”

You Say, by Lauren Daigle

Jesus, this Holy Week, this Good Friday, I am listening for what You Say. Amen.
