How Converge Works

With Converge, students & young professionals can leverage time, talent, and resources to serve an organization and a community that relates to studies and passions.

And leaders seeking interns can design their own internship program to find the right candidates for their organizations.

If you need an internship...

Step 1: REGISTER HERE

Register to get access to Converge Internship listings.

Step 2: SEARCH/REQUEST

Search the Converge listing for opportunities or request an ideal internship that fit your needs

Step 3: APPLICATION

Because you are pre-registered, your application will go very quickly. Choose the internship that relates to your passion, studies, skills, and fits your schedule and the area of the world you want to go. Then pay the Application Fee. Because we seek to do justice, Converge fees are based on your country of citizenship. Find your country under our International Fee Scale.  (Top fee is $35USD. Application Fee includes enrollment in the Converge Course.)

Step 4: INVITE

Invite others to join your team. But even if you go alone, you will have a team surrounding you, including your Mentor, your Host (and co-workers), and your Donors. Your Mentor can be a Ministry Leader, Academic Advisor, or a member of your community.

Step 5: ENROLL

You will be enrolled in the Converge course online. You should start the course at least 60 days before the internship begins. The Converge course is set up in five phases. The Pre-Departure Orientation is all online, including dozens of short videos (2-5 min), which you can discuss with your Mentor.

Step 6: SPONSORS

Invite your community to join your personal support team. Your friends and family can help send you when you send them your personal landing page, including your story, photos, and dedicated donate button. All donations are tax-deductible in the USA. All Interns are also responsible to raise their own financial support.

Step 7: SERVE

You follow your Converge Host’s schedule and more. You learn to observe and “map” a community or organization. You learn to interview individuals and focus groups, and you propose and complete the agreed upon personalized missions project.

This is what making a difference looks like!

If you need interns...

Step 3: DESIGN

You choose the name, description, dates, qualifications of interns, room & board plan, and any fees related to the internship.

Step 4: PAYMENT

We are priced for ministries and the developing world. You may pay monthly, or a one-time annual fee with one free month. Because we seek to do justice, Converge Internship Hosting fees are based on your country of destination. Find your country under our International Fee Scale.  (This is the only fee charged to your organization. Top fee is $25USD/month.)
(YWAM Campus Ministries registered with Converge get an additional discount.)

 Step 5: PROMOTE

Your Internship listing will be advertised on Social Media and at Student Missions conferences. You may also share your Internship opportunity landing page through your social networks and emails.

Step 6: APPROVE

You will receive immediate notifications of all Internship applications. You can review, interview, and approve or disapprove any applicant.
Once approved, your intern(s) will begin an online pre-arrival training with a Mentor who will coach them through the preparation time.

Step 7: OVERSIGHT

The Host will welcome the Intern(s) and provide an Enculturation briefing about your organization, the work schedule, the team, etc.  You and your Intern(s) will meet at least one hour per week.  The Intern(s) will propose their personalized missions project for your approval and they will complete it. Your final task will be to evaluate the intern(s) before their departure.

Here's what to expect as a Converge Intern

The Converge Course prepares you to be effective during your internship. After the Pre-Departure Phase of the Converge Course, there are four remaining phases, which include –  Enculturation,  Assessment,  Project, and  Debriefing. You will accomplish various activities and assignments designed to help you engage on a deep level with the host community.

When you arrive at the internship location, your Host will conduct the Enculturation Phase to introduce you to the organization and the community.

During the Assessment Phase, you will also observe, listen, and ask open questions before you propose a unique contribution, to be completed during the Project Phase. Your big question, “What can I do here, with the time and resources that I have, to make a real difference?”

What kinds of Projects do Converge Interns do?

You may design a project to help start a business or plant a church, establish an HIV/AIDS counseling clinic or health awareness campaign, install water pumps or storage facilities, establish therapy routines for disabled children in an orphanage, or redesign a medical clinic or pharmacy. You may envision the development of a healthy nutritional plan for a hospice, or the creation of a curriculum for a school. Your Project may take the form of a video, a web site, a PR campaign, or another community resource that relates to your studies or career.

Finally, you will reflect on your Internship experience during the Debriefing Phase and post a summary of your Project.
